I'm Jean F., the breeder behind Newfound Retrievers located in Kalamazoo, MI. We breed excellent quality, good-looking, highly-trainable Labrador Retrievers who come from outstanding pedigrees with origins to both field and conformation champions.
Q. & A. with Jean
Why did you start breeding?
We kept a male dog, Deke, out of the next litter from Luterville Labs. While Deke has a very different personality from Niko, he is an exceptional retriever with endless drive. He holds Hunting Retriever, Upland Hunter and Senior Hunter titles and will be running Finished and Master tests this summer. He is also a talented scent work dog who has earned many titles, now competing at Master and Elite levels. Cedar came along after I met Carolyn Elam (Blazing Red Kennels) at the Michigan Flyways hunt test in 2016. I fell in love with her dog Flame and several of the young Flame dogs she had on her truck at the time. Cedar holds a Hunting Retriever Title, has four AKC Senior passes and numerous AKC and UKC scentwork titles, currently competing in Master and Elite levels. She will be running Master and Finished tests next summer.
What makes your program special?
These dogs have outstanding pedigrees and have proven themselves in performance events including UKC and AKC hunt tests and AKC and UKC scent detection events. I am also working with PennVet's working dog program and donating one of my upcoming puppies to be trained as a working/service dog in their program.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
