I'm Margretta L., the breeder behind Nixie Kennels located in Fife Lake, MI. I go above and beyond to ensure I'm breeding healthy, well-rounded, happy dogs. I look forward to matching families with a wonderful pet. The most important goal for me is the find a lifelong home for my puppies. This breed is so special and I love being able to educate and share the breed with others. I have recently travelled to Hungary to learn from the Pumi breeders there and see the dogs in their original country.

Why did you start breeding?
I got my first show dog, Frida, in 2016 with the interest of competing in conformation and different sports (obedience, agility, etc). We were very successful in the show ring, and after putting titles on both ends of her name, I wanted to do my part as a breeder and owner to educate others on the breed and give my dogs the best life possible.What makes your program special?
I devote my time energy and efforts to each litter making sure my puppies are properly socialized from the moment they are born. We raise our puppies on the Puppy Culture program and do Volhard Puppy Aptitude Tests to help ensure we place each puppy in the home with the best fit.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Fig is a big lover dog who finds joy in all parts of life. He loves playing fetch with his Jolly Ball toy in the yard and helping round up our gaggle of chickens. He shares our pillow with us on the bed and curls up right next to us. He is a 5 time Best in Specialty Show winner and won BOB at the Pumi National in 2025

Simi is the sweetest dog in our program. She adores attention from everyone she can get to stop and play with her. She does well with children of all ages and will be starting therapy dog training in 2026. We hope to complete her health testing in winter of 2025.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
