I'm Cheryl R., the breeder behind Obsidian Kennel located in Overton, TX. Our high-quality puppies are the result of extensive research and thorough care for our outstanding dogs and puppies. We are dedicated to raising the bar for thoughtful breeding with optimal health in mind. We do our best to produce puppies that have the best chance at living long, happy, and healthy lives as your best friend!

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We got our first two littermate males Dobermans back in 2013. Which was the best decision we have made as they have great temperaments. It did take us a few years to get our female, but we got her back in 2017. I keep a variety of factors in mind when choosing dogs to breed, including health, temperament, pedigree, and complementary traits, so that puppies can inherit the best of both parents.

  • What makes your program special?

    Our puppies are introduced to various animals, and noises. We strive to produce healthy, well-rounded puppies and match them to the best possible homes. We love what we do and truly want the very best for our puppies and their forever families

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include black and rust and red and rust. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Cheryl

Cheryl has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Cheryl partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

Price

Puppy prices include a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. The remaining $3,000 - $4,000 is due before pickup, plus applicable taxes and fees.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation , Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    Cheryl was awesome! She was very informative when questions asked . Sent me a video on posting ears. Care package arrived with “Zara”. Zara is a smart, healthy, beautiful girl. She everything & more that I expected! Big shout out to Cheryl for her standards & preservation of this beautiful breed !
