Meet the breeder

I'm Erin, the breeder behind October Hounds located in Star, ID. Our doxies are our babies. They are with us in our home all day everyday, loved on and raised by our large family. We believe in responsible and careful breeding, and the importance of upholding the breed standards/good conformation. Our doxies are genetic tested through Embark. When you join our puppy family, you are taking home a well socialized pup who is up to date on vaccinations, deworming, and has been vet examined. Our pups now come with an AKC Reunite microchip kit with prepaid lifetime registration, comfort blanket that has the scent of their mom and siblings, as well as a puppy welcome kit with toys and information. ❤️ Great communication with/from the potential Forever Family is very important to us, please note that the inability to respond to messages in a timely fashion will be interpreted as "no longer interested" in our pup. These babies deserve forever homes that are truly excited and invested in them. ❤️🐾 Thank you!

Q. & A. with Erin

  • Why did you start breeding?

I think I fell in love with the breed somewhere around the late 80's or early 90's when I read the Howliday Inn series by James Howe. A love for dachshunds runs in our family. Grandparents, parents, siblings, and cousins have owned dachshunds. I brought home my first dachshund in 2002, a smooth black & tan that I named Greta. After getting my second in 2003, a longhaired shaded red named Sable, I was a fully fledged Crazy Dachshund Lady. Seven more dachshunds have joined our family since then. I have always enjoyed educating myself on breed standards and characteristics, and when all of our children grew old enough to be a little more self sufficient, my research took a turn toward personally getting involved in bettering the breed. With our newest addition Sabina, we plan to soon enter the world of AKC conformation shows.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include piebald, cream, black and tan, chocolate and cream, black and cream, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $2,100 - $3,100 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Each puppy comes with AKC registration, AKC Reunite microchip, comfort blanket and puppy welcome kit with toys and information, first round of shots, deworming, early puppy pad training, and will have been very lovingly socialized with our children and other animals. :). We do charge a deposit to hold your puppy and remove it from our listings. Once we have asked for a deposit we allow 24 hours to complete it, then we must move on to the next person on the waitlist. The deposit is put towards the total cost, the remaining balance is due by the time your puppy is 8 weeks old. The deposit is non refundable because we turn away any other interested puppy parents from your reserved pup.”
