Meet the breeder

I'm Patricia B., the breeder behind Oddity Kennels located in Ocala, FL. Our dogs are bred for health and conformation, with a focus on temperament, intelligence and workability. We are dedicated to providing families with well socialized, healthy family pets that have the capacity to do various performance sports.

Q. & A. with Patricia

  • Why did you start breeding?

I really love the breed, and i want to provide them with dogs who want to work but are also content being pets as well. I want a well rounded dog that can excel in any outlet. I love the experience of rearing a litter, and before (and currently) I got into breeding, I have raised litters of puppies for local rescues and shelters to give them a better start at life
  • What makes your program special?

By breeding a mix of showline, sportline, and working line border collies, we are able to produce very versatile puppies with an excellent on/off switch. Our hope is that it allows the future generations of our kennel to be well rounded in any lifestyle situation they are placed in. We have had great success with past litters thriving in active homes who also are able to do some sports work too.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include blue merle, red merle, red, sable, sable merle, saddleback sable, seal, and slate. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Oddity Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Full Embark Panel, Optimal Selection Canine Genetic Breeding Analysis

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
