Meet the breeder

I'm Marissa O., the breeder behind Osborne Family Retrievers located in Alger, OH. As elite breeders, we do everything we can to breed and rear our puppies to be the best canine companions money can buy--with optimal temperament and health. Whether you need a lazy family pet, active family playmate, energetic sporting dog or canine to train for service or therapy work contact us!

Q. & A. with Marissa

  • Why did you start breeding?

We acquired our love for dogs 14 years ago when a pitiful, malnourished Golden Retriever Lab mix wandered down our country road. The children's search to find his owners turned up empty, so “Murray” was officially adopted! The joy of having this dog for the next 7 years made us want to provide healthy, family-raised pups just like him for other families like us!
  • What makes your program special?

Our breeding and training standards are matched by only a few puppy breeders, not only in Ohio, but across the United States, as well. We have these high standards to assure you that we have done everything possible to give your family healthy and happy Labrador Retriever pups which will bring you enjoyment & entertainment for years to come!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

We had the best experience with Osborne Family Retrievers. They took so much time to listen to what we wanted in a puppy, give direction, and then find the dog she thought would be the best fit. She posted videos and photos of the dog so my girls could watch him grow and see what he was up to. She was very thorough and he did amazing from the first night we brought him home. He is healthy and growing like crazy and we would absolutely get another dog from them in a heartbeat!

The Osborn family truly care about the puppies like no other breeders I've met. The new addition to my family is healthy, energetic and passed his first veterinary visit with flying colors.

Marissa and her Family were outstanding to deal with. We talked on the phone, and she also texted us about Buffy. When we went to their home, we were treated like family. We came from Canada to get Buffy, and Marissa had all the paperwork ready for crossing the border. Excellent and straightforward travel with Buffy. She slept the night in her crate as we had to stay in a motel overnight. Buffy was housebroken in about 2 to 3 weeks. She now sleeps with us, at the end of the bed, or on the floor in her bed. I would tell anyone that Marissa and her family are excellent breeders. They are now an extended family!

Our family could not be happier about our 2 new pups from the Osborne Families Rita and Harvey liter. Obi, in Colorado, is the most amazing little guy and Leia, in Florida, is an incredible new family member. Such healthy, intelligent, well-balanced, and absolutely gorgeous labs. We could not be happier !!!

I’ve been a Labrador owner for my entire adult life and worked with more than several breeders. Never have I been as impressed as I’ve been with Osborne Family Retrievers. Most breeders hand off a puppy with very general questions answered and a “good luck”. The Osbornes provide much more. Upon initial interest contact Marissa and her daughter, Lydia, provided a comprehensive intro document with information about the litter, their puppy “curriculum”, specifics regarding purchase, health information and testing results of parents, and their guarantees. Marissa set up a call, and we discussed lifestyle and the temperament of the puppy I was interested in to make sure the fit was appropriate. I was able to ask questions and get answers. It was obvious that they put a lot of love, attention and care into their dogs and puppies. Communication and updates continued after I had made my decision. Since I live in another state, Marissa arranged transport of my new adventure buddy with a small family run dog transport business. She also sent a box of goodies that included a few toys, a small blanket with her family’s scent, and information packets pertinent to puppy health and well being. My new girl arrived at my house clean and well cared for with all of her medical and vaccination records. Our sweet girl has been settling in at her new home, and we couldn’t be happier. She is exactly as described. She came with a strong training foundation to build upon. Note - Marissa provides a complementary online “Puppy Training” course as part of the purchase of your new dog. Take advantage of this! It’s excellent! I’m an experienced Labrador owner, and I have learned from it. It’s also the approach used during the time the pups are with the Osbornes; so we were able to pick right up where they had left off. It made the transition to a new home easier for the dog. Since taking ownership, we’ve continued to communicate. The Osbornes are interested in knowing how their dogs are doing and adjusting.

Marissa and Lydia were so great to work with throughout this experience! When I first expressed interest in a pup they replied very quickly. We soon got into a call where they explained so much about their operation and answered any questions I had. They even helped accommodate me picking up my pup at the airport! I’m so happy with my girl Sunny (originally Suni), she is so sweet and fun.
