Q. & A. with Maria
Why did you start breeding?
After losing my search and rescue partner, I couldn't bring myself to search for another malinois. Instead, I made the leap into a new breed and under the mentorship of my first breeder I began competing in conformation, rally, barn hunt, and. FASTCAT with my corsos. We did well in these venues and received constant compliments on my girls' temperaments, so decided to move forward with breeding.
What makes your program special?
My dogs are beloved family members; every puppy is deliverered with my own hands. My program focuses on temperament above all- a beautiful, healthy dog with poor temperament can be as detrimental (or more!) to quality of life of the dog & family. I collaborate with other knowledgeable breeders to be sure I select the best possible pairing to minimize the risk of epilepsy & prevent DSRA.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Overwatch Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Cane Corso.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
