I'm Bonnie D., the breeder behind Painted Stars Farm located in Ransomville, NY. We offer top-quality companions and sports prospects to high-quality and loving homes. Our dogs' well-being is our top priority! Our passion is to make better dogs! We focus on breeding dogs that are improvements upon BOTH of their parents in terms of their ability to do the job they were intended to do. We strive to produce pups that fulfill the lives of their humans and are cherished athletic companions and valued members of their families.
Q. & A. with Bonnie
Why did you start breeding?
I grew up in a dog-loving family. My father was a breeder of AKC National Champion Field Trialing beagles; some of which were highly accredited Purina Award winners. My family also ran a boarding kennel and grooming facility where I learned to appreciate many breeds of dogs and grew up studying canine breeding and genetics. Since then I have been breeding quality sports dogs for decades.
What makes your program special?
We select our breeding stock based on temperament, structure, pedigree, genetics, and production records, in order to produce best quality sport dogs, companions and pets as possible.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Painted Stars Farm reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Border Collies.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
