Meet the breeder

I'm Melissa A., the breeder behind Pandora located in Huntsville, AL. My dogs are bred with health, temperament, and structural soundness in mind. We test our breeding dogs for health through OFA and also use the Puppy Culture program for training; tailoring it to maximize the potential of each puppy to be a physically and mentally sound, confident dog that is ready for wherever life takes you!

Q. & A. with Melissa

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have always loved dogs, but took it for granted that good sociable go-anywhere dogs would be as easy to find as when I was a child. After my last rescued Chow passed away in 2014, I had a very difficult time finding a new Chow Chow. I observed that the average quantity and quality of breeders and their dogs was low, with only a few standouts. This inspired me to learn about breeding and establish my own responsible breeding program. The rest is history!
  • What makes your program special?

I select my breeding dogs based on health, longevity, athleticism, structure, and proper breed temperament. My program is an effort to preserve and protect the breed while bringing physically and mentally sound puppies into people's lives as companions and performance dogs. I utilize modern DNA testing, OFA testing, and the Puppy Culture raising curriculum to help further my goals. I work with passion, heart, integrity, and truly want what's best for dogs and people for generations to come!
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Poodle puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Poodle puppies include black, blue, and silver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

We had an amazing experience with Melissa! From the very beginning she communicated clearly and promptly, always keeping us in the loop. We loved having live camera access to watch our puppy grow and develop before coming home — it made the wait so special. She also went above and beyond in starting early training and socialization. By the time we picked up Ozzi, he already had a wonderful foundation, was comfortable with his crate, and was well on his way to being potty trained. It’s clear she truly cares about her puppies and the families they go to. We’re so grateful for the care and dedication she put into Ozzi’s first weeks — it’s made the transition into our home so much smoother. Highly recommend!

Melissa was great to work with! She gave regular updates from the time we put down a deposit until our scheduled pick up day (after our pup reached 8 weeks old). The pick up went well and Melissa had everything ready to go. We have had our new puppy for about a week now and things are going well. I can tell that she had been working with him on impulse control and pottying outside. Thanks Melissa!

Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
