Meet the breeder

I'm Shelly M., the breeder behind Petite Joie Puppies located in Howard City, MI. Our mission is to connect families with the perfect fur companion to fit their lifestyle. We prioritize health, temperament, and early development in the puppies we raise. All of our breeders are DNA tested. We follow a structured program that includes early neurological stimulation, socialization, submission, crate training, puppy pad training, and confidence-building exercises. We are committed to making your puppy’s transition into your home as smooth as possible, and we don’t stop once your puppy leaves our care. We want you to be successful. We’re here for the dog’s entire life, we’ll answer questions and offer support.

Q. & A. with Shelly

  • Why did you start breeding?

My love for animals began at a young age, following my father on large-animal veterinary calls. I grew up surrounded by dogs and livestock, watching firsthand the dedication it takes to raise healthy animals. Those early experiences inspired me to begin breeding, and I’ve carried that passion forward ever since.
  • What makes your program special?

Our program combines decades of experience with a hands-on, family approach. We’ve partnered with the same trusted veterinary practice for over 30 years, ensuring consistent, top-quality care for our dogs. Our structured training begins when puppies are 3 days old and continues until they are adopted. Our puppies are pre-trained, not pre-spoiled.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Shihpoo puppies are tiny size. Poodle puppies are toy size. Assorted Doodle Crosses puppies are petite size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Shihpoo puppies include brown and black gold and white. Coton de Tulear puppies are white. Havapoo puppies include chocolate and white, chocolate, red sable, red, cream, black and tan, and apricot. Havanese puppies include chocolate, chocolate brindle, and chocolate sable. Maltese puppies are white. Yorkipoo puppies are tri-color. Poodle puppies include apricot and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I found the perfect dog for me that met my requirements. I told Shelly that I wanted a female, small, hypoallergenic puppy who will be calm and not a loud barker. She suggested her puppy named “Puppet”, who is a mix of Poodle and Colon de Tulear because of the qualities displayed. (I had not heard of this breed, but the breed originated in Madagascar.) Shelly was right because I could see that Puppet was perfect for me. I watched the way she interacted with her brothers, and I could easily see that she was definitely more passive than her siblings. Sophie is her new name. In conclusion, as a breeder, I found Shelly very well organized and eager to answer all of my questions. I would definitely recommend her to others.
