I'm Norman B., the breeder behind Phoenix Shih Tzu located in Hayden, ID. We love this breed, Shih Tzu are the only dogs we have and raise. All our puppies go to loving pet homes. None of our puppies go with breeding rights, sorry.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We got our first Shih Tzu Skittles when our son was 8 and was going through surgeries for a ski accident. Skittles turned out being the best therapy dog a boy could have. We fell in love with the breed and went on to acquire the best of the best dogs we could find and built a quality breeding program.

  • What makes your program special?

    First, we allow people to come to our home to see the litter in person and the parents of their future puppy. Next, we only breed top quality dogs. We have two males, Jack has multiple champions in his pedigree. Our stud Parker is our new stud, BOTH are genetically tested via Embark and BOTH are clear of every health condition they tested for.

Getting a puppy from Norman

Norman has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Norman partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“We look for families that will be home the majority of the day as we find ShihTzu are in need of their humans and do not like to be alone. We do not place "tiny" puppies with families who have very young children. (We do not "try" for tinies but we get them sometimes and they are more fragile then standard sized ShihTzu) If we get a high energy puppy, we look for a family with lots of older children or more than 1 adult in the family as they may need more active attention then your typical ShihTzu who is perfectly happy to just sit on your lap. ”

Puppy prices include a $1,000 deposit and between $1,000 - $2,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

  • Congenital Dyshormonogenic Hypothyroidism with Goiter, Shih Tzu Type, Animal Genetics Panel, Prekallikrein Deficiency, Fletcher Trait, Congenital Hypothyroidism with Goiter (CHG)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
