Meet the breeder

I'm Kim B., the breeder behind Pilgrim Shih tzu located in Clarksburg, WV. We start Early neurological stimulation (ENS) at 3 days old. These exercises are used when training service dogs. Studies have shown these exercises give puppies a stronger immune systems and help them fight off diseases. We are committed to producing healthy puppies for loving homes!

Q. & A. with Kim

  • Why did you start breeding?

We got our first Shih tzu while my husband was stationed in Germany with the army over 20 years ago. I love Shih tzus and you can’t have just one! Our male needed a play mate. After returning to the states with our male, Einstein we found his wife, Elsie and the rest is history! Over the years I have learned as much as possible about the breed. And strive to produce the best temperament!
  • What makes your program special?

Early Neurological Stimulation exercises are done daily starting at 3 days old. At 2 weeks old we begin pee pad training, the Rule of the sevens and 10 step puppy handling exercises. These programs are used to get puppies accustomed to being touched and expose them to as much as possible by the time they are 7 weeks old. They are very well socialized with other dogs, children and the elderly!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include chocolate, black, liver, red, black and white, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

It was the best experience that I had. She was so great with sharing many pictures and constant updates on the puppies as they were progressing. I would recommend her to anyone.

My husband and I had the best experience with Kim! Not only did she take such good care of our Harlow, but she was always willing to answer any questions, give us lots of tips, product information, etc.. One of our favorite things were the frequent updates and videos!! So thankful for the Good Dog app. If it wasn’t for them, we would have never found Kim or our sweet little girl. She really is the perfect baby. They made the whole process really easy and it’s secure!!! If you’re interested in adding a Shih Tzu to your family, look no further ☺️

Working with Kim to find our next baby was truly the best experience I’ve ever had with a breeder! We met on Good Dog before our puppy was even born. We talked about her dogs and her experience with breeding, and we talked about so much more! I followed the pregnancy as it progressed and was even aware of when labor began and how momma was doing! Kim sent pictures shortly after delivery of the puppies. We text several times that day/night! I felt like I was part of it and being a labor & delivery nurse, that meant a lot to me! With my initial deposit, I had secured second pick of the litter, so when my turn came, I wasn’t sure which one was right for us. I had 2 or 3 in mind but I wanted to meet the puppies before I chose. Kim made this possible. There was no pressure. I was able to make my decision and visit my puppy several times before we brought her home! Kim set up a group text with all of the new owners (with their permission) and kept us all updated with their progress, weights, pictures, videos, and their daily antics! We all got to know each other through our puppies! It was so much fun as we waited to bring our babies home! Kim spent so much time with the puppies, she even did early neurological development exercises with them to give us well-adjusted puppies that weren’t timid or scared. She exposed them to new experiences like car rides, situations, toys, play tunnels, steps, etc. To say they were well-loved was an understatement! I picked our girl up at 9 weeks and brought her home. She’s never cried or whined. She sleeps well and is learning the rules of potty training! We’re in love with our little Phoebe Hope and couldn’t have picked a better breeder! On top of all the wonderful things Kim has done for us, she is a Christian and we share the same values. Her faith and principles were evident in everything she fires. It gave me peace of mind to know I was dealing with someone with integrity! It’s obvious she loves what she’s doing and she does it well! We were very blessed to have found her! I truly believe it was a God-wink! Thank you, Kim, for our beautiful Phoebe Hope!
