I'm Chelsy K., the breeder behind Poker Paws Dachshunds located in Jarales, NM. I have loved the dachshund breed since I was a little girl. Growing up around them, I quickly learned how special they truly are. I believe dachshunds are one of the most incredible breeds because of their unique personalities, intelligence, and the way they connect so deeply with their people.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    Dachshunds have been a part of my family for as long as I can remember, and I have always had a deep love for this incredible breed. My decision to begin breeding came after spending a great deal of time researching and learning, along with receiving mentorship from a very well-known and experienced breeder.

  • What makes your program special?

    My deep passion and commitment to the dachshund breed. I strive to raise puppies that are playful, affectionate, and full of personality—everything that makes dachshunds such a special and beloved breed.

  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Our puppies include miniature and standard sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

    Our puppies include smooth and longhaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include piebald, cream, red, black, chocolate, chocolate and cream, black and cream, black and tan, chocolate and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Chelsy

Chelsy has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Chelsy partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“When placing my puppies, I take the time to learn about each potential home to ensure the best possible match. I ask questions about the home environment, what the family is looking for in a puppy, and whether the puppy will be a pet or intended for breeding. I ask where the puppy will be living, if there are children in the home, and whether the family currently owns a dachshund or has owned one in the past. These questions help me better understand each home and ensure that every puppy is matched with a family that fits their personality and needs.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $200 non-refundable deposit and between $1,300 - $4,300 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Puppy prices includes a $200 non-refundable deposit and the remainder amount is due at pick up. Puppy will have received a veterinary exam, first vaccinations, and deworming before leaving. A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required to reserve a puppy. Pups are ready to go home after 8 weeks. The deposit is deducted from the total purchase price and the remainder is due before pick up.”

Chelsy may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Generalized, DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
