I'm Helia D., the breeder behind Protea Kennel located in Nebraska. Our dogs are so special to us. We felt compelled to get more involved and do our part to positively impact the breeds we love. We give our puppies the best start possible so they’re set up to succeed as well-socialized, trainable, and wonderful additions to any family.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Doberman Pinscher puppies include black and rust, blue and rust, fawn (isabella) and rust, and red and rust. Miniature Bull Terrier puppies include white black and brindle, white and brindle, white, brindle and white, and black brindle and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Getting a puppy from Helia

Helia has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Puppy prices include between $3,000 - $3,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Dobermans - $3000 MBTs - $3,500 All puppies leave after 9 weeks of age at earliest. All genetic testing will be done as well as required vaccinations and dewormings. Puppies are well socialized and raised to be well rounded. We breed with the ultimate goal of producing well rounded and stable puppies. The Dobermans will have ears and tails done. MBTS and Dobermans both have dew claws removed.”

  • Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered), Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA), Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Working Aptitude (WAE)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
