Q. & A. with Dawn

  • Why did you start breeding?

I worked at a dog breeding/boarding kennel for 3 years. I have about 6 years of teaching left before I retire and I want get my hobby/retirement passion started now.
  • What makes your program special?

I am newer to the breeding world; however, I have 3 great mentors that I have learned and sought assistance from. I have taken Jeanette Forrey's mentorship and how to evaluate puppies classes. I health test my dogs through Embark and test eyes, elbows, cardiac, hips and patella. All of my dogs have their CGC certification and novice trick dog titles. One of my labs is a certified therapy dog.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Dawn

Dawn has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

“Puppy Selection Process How does it work? Why do we do it this way? Puppy selection occurs in order of date deposit is received. Puppy selections will occur after our temperament observation and testing are complete at 7-8 weeks old. Why 7-8 weeks? 2 reasons-Because this is when many important traits are fully developed and will not change in adulthood. And-the puppies are examined by our veterinarian at 7 weeks prior to selection. The permanent traits are: Energy Level Assertiveness with humans Motivation to work Prey Drive Human focus Emotional sensitivity Herding drive Other important traits that we watch and test for, but are considered “adjustable or flexible”, meaning that they can be developed with the correct guidance from their new family. The adjustable traits are: Confidence Resiliency Tolerance to touch Sound sensitivity Sight sensitivity Excitability/Reaction to movement At 7-8 weeks, we finalize temperament testing for each puppy and share the following information with all clients via the private Facebook group for the litter: Video of temperament testing video taken at 7-8 weeks old Score card with results of all the permanent and adjustable traits that we test for Additional information about the puppy’s temperament that may not be seen in the video; such as extra notes from interactions before the video was made. Vet exam forms/vaccination receipts for each puppy After posting all the above information and giving everyone a day to review it, I will begin reaching out to each client in order. Upon request, I will give you my recommendations/guidance for puppies that I think may match what you are looking for in your puppy, answer any questions, and then help you ultimately choose a puppy. Puppy go home dates, information on paperwork and items I send home with the puppies, and transition into the new home information will be posted on the private Facebook group for the litter. I can send info via email if you do not have Facebook. ”
