I'm Lauren A., the breeder behind Pure Pugs located in Hanover, VA. Our family is overjoyed to be breeding our favorite small breed—pugs. The journey began when I got my first pug, Jeb, at 24 years old. He was my heart dog, full of love and personality. Sadly, Jeb was born with a congenital heart defect and underwent two heart surgeries before passing away from a heart condition. His loss was devastating, and I vowed never to own another pug. Years later, my children encouraged me to open my heart again, and that’s when Frank came into our lives. Frank was the perfect addition—loving, healthy, and full of charm. He reignited our passion for the breed and inspired our family to begin breeding pugs with one clear goal: to provide happy and healthy companions to other families, so they never have to experience the heartbreak we did with Jeb. With over 20 years of experience breeding dogs, we are committed to raising pugs that are not only adorable but also well-socialized, healthy, and ready to bring joy to your home. Our breeding program is built on love, care, and a deep respect for the breed.

Program update on 13 Jan •…We have two upcoming litters: Baby and Frank: black and fawn Lola and Bob: fawn Baby and Frank were bred puppies expected around 3/15 Lola and Bob were bred as well so pups expected around 3/18 Puppies will go home in May. Right now I have a waitlist I will be following: 3 black male 2 fawn male 2 fawn female 1 black female If you would like to be added please let me know there is no cost but I will go in order of the list when the pups come. You want one great and if not that is okay as well.

Litter update on 26 Dec 2025 •…Happy Holidays. My kids dad had a stroke the other week and is still in ICU. We have been overwhelmed but do not worry the boys are growing fast and moving a lot more. They are eating mush and started using the litter box.

Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Pug Dog Encephalitis (PDE)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
