I'm Shelley D., the breeder behind Purebred Pugs of Puget Sound located in Anderson Island, WA. We focus on genetic vitality, calm temperaments, and loving affectionate natures. All puppies are raised in our family environment. They are relaxed, well adjusted, friendly, playful, and loved. From birth through to their forever homes, they are cared for in every aspect of their lives.

Why did you start breeding?
As youngsters we were raised in farming communities and had lots of experience with animals of every kind. We participated in 4H, showing animals, and state fairs. Animal husbandry has always been a love of ours. As adults we wanted to continue this process. We do not breed for the money but truly for the love of the entire process from selecting the right mating pair, through puppy placement.What makes your program special?
We work with puppies from birth doing ENS as well as training in every aspect of the puppies development. We desensitize the pups from every day life challenges through sound, touch, sights, scents and taste, and work on adjusting them to grooming habits from top to tail: The pups are well adjusted to all aspects of life by the time they are ready for their forever homes.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include fawn and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Getting a puppy from Shelley
Shelley has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Shelley partners with them to find the best puppy match.

About Tuggs
Tugboat is a sweet natured calm even tempered boy with a deep-seated need for human companionship. He thrives on our attention and is the classic "velcro dog" following us from room to room to ensure that he is part of everything we are doing including sleeping in our bed! He loves to hang out and watch TV and lounging in the sun. He is highly sensitive to our moods and offers quiet comfort when we are subdued and celebratory play when we are joyful. His playful daily routine of games engages us especially if we are playing tug! He is eager to please, and is highly motivated by food and treats, making him responsive to positive reinforcement and training. Tugboat rarely barks unless there is a stranger approaching and is super friendly once he knows that our guests are ok with us.

About Tilly
Tilly is sweet, smart, and tenacious. She is a perfect breeding dog and the matriarch of our home - a soulful devoted companion who who carefully balances her role as a loving pug and her duties as a protective mother and household overseer. She loves continual contact with us, so whether we are cooking, reading, cleaning, or sleeping, she is curled by your feet or within arms reach. She communicates through continuous eye contact and warm snuggling. Tilly is the first to notice the UPS driver, an approaching animal, or any new distraction. While not aggressive, Tilly is intensely loyal and takes her guard duties seriously making sure that everyone in the house is safe before she rests. She has wonderful nurturing instincts and is meticulous in keeping her litter clean, warm, and fed. Despite the overwhelming feeling at times with seven young pups to care for, she always keeps her patience, even allowing the litter to nurse into their 8th week. She is expressive and serious, and this melts into a wiggly full body greeting the moment you acknowledge her.

Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Wisdom Panel, DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
