I'm Thomas and Maureen W., the breeder behind PyneTree Whippets located in Indian Harbour Beach, FL. Our dogs are bred for temperament, conformation, genetic purity, athleticism, beauty, and companionship. Our vision is the complete "Breed Standard" dog, one that demonstrates the original intent.
Q. & A. with Thomas and Maureen
Why did you start breeding?
We got our first whippet, Connor, 4 years ago as a pet, with no real intention of showing. Whippets, being like potato chips, no one can have just one, we added Caitlyn to our family a year later. This year, we added a third, Velcro. She is as clingy as her name implies!
Because we started him late (18 months) Connor has points and is still working on his CH. Caitlyn OTOH, started at 6 months and quickly went to CH and GCH. She is currently 2/3 of the way to GCHB. Velcro just made CH a in the fall of 2025.
We have a wonderful group of people who have and are guiding us on this Journey. Trezlar, Infinity, and Sandbar Whippets.
What makes your program special?
We focus on the "whole package". 1. Temperament. We believe that temperament is crucial, whether show dog or family pet. 2. Conformation. We love this breed and are focused on producing the best possible pets/show dogs that the breed can produce. 3. Athleticism. This breed was born to run. We love entering them in FastCAT and Lure Coursing. Watching sight hounds chase the "bunny" all day is a wonder to behold! 4. Beauty. Although the breed standard says, "Color: Any", and beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, we strive for combinations that are unique and appealing. 5. Companionship. What would we have without their companionship. These dogs love to snuggle up to you on the couch and put their head in your lap without a care in the world. Most of them also like to crawl into bed and snuggle under the covers! More than once, I've woken up with a long snoot on my pillow breathing down my neck! LOL
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and black and fawn brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
