Meet the breeder

I'm Rachel D., the breeder behind Rachel's Dachshunds located in Boyd, TX. We do our best to socialize and acclimate each litter so we’re able to offer all-around healthy and well-mannered puppies! We strive to produce healthy, intelligent puppies that are able to integrate comfortably into a variety of age groups, households, and lifestyles.

Q. & A. with Rachel

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have a veterinary health background and studied the importance of genetics in both horses and dogs. I began showing dogs a few years ago with a friend and realized that there are a lot of organizations that have strayed away from quality and often ignore health concerns. So, we designed a program with love that focuses specifically on the health, well-being, and quality of all our dogs!
  • What makes your program special?

Love! We only breed 1 or 2 litters per year and only with the best of the best. We focus on Health, Temperament, Genetics, and Environment. We specifically stay away from line breeding and often will travel or use sires from other countries to avoid genetic issues and to make sure our puppies are the healthiest they can possibly be. Every puppy is indivually loved from the day they are born.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have smooth coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I so enjoyed working with Rachel while looking for my dachshund. I loved that her website described each dog's personality - and those descriptions were very accurate when I met the puppies. Helped me decide on my Greta. Rachel was very cautious about where we would have our meet and greet. That showed me she was very protective and wanted her puppies to go to a good home. She was very knowledgable and gave me great information as well as a precious goody bag for Greta. I recommend her highly!
