Meet the breeder

I'm Skye D., the breeder behind Red Feather Aussies located in Stanford, KY. Our dogs are members of our family, raised in the home and on the farm. All of our breeding dogs are health & CAER tested. AKC registered, some AKC & ASCA. In central Kentucky near Lexington, raising Aussies for a decade now.We leave front dewclaws intact and will consider leaving tail with deposit.

Q. & A. with Skye

  • Why did you start breeding?

When I worked in animal control I would often foster litters of puppies for the shelter. After leaving the industry for a few years after a cross- country move, I missed having more dogs around. I wanted to raise pups again, but I wanted it to be purposeful. I found a couple of breeders that mentor me and helped me learn to better the breed. I’ve been breeding Aussies since 2012.
  • What makes your program special?

Our dogs are all members of the family. They all spend time in the house, around kids, dogs, cats, horses, chickens, and all around the farm. We breed for temperament and conformation. We prefer dogs that can play and show or work, but also be happy being a couch potato or a best buddy to a child. We prefer to work with families looking for health and temperament over color or eye color.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, red merle, blue merle, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Skye stayed in touch and gave me photo updates. She answered all my questions. She even let us come and meet our puppy before pick up date! That really helped her be more comfortable on the ride home. Skye also provided us with a towel with mom and siblings sent on it which was a dream when creat training!

Skye knows a lot about this breed and answered questions when I asked. The puppy is so well behaved and great with my cat (he is not aggressive at all toward it and doesn’t continuously bark at it). I am so glad I went with Skye from Red Feather Aussies!!

I am completely satisfied with the Good Dog app. It was so easy to use and helped me find a great breeder. My interactions with Skye were wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and quick to answer all my questions and concerns. I felt completely comfortable communicating via the application. The process of finding a puppy to complete my family was so simple. I am completely satisfied with my furbaby. Skye was so helpful throughout the whole process. Even after we brought our puppy home, I knew if I had any new questions or concerns I could reach out to her. Thanks for helping me find my newest family member. We are so in love.

Skye did an amazing job raising Max, he is such a smart, healthy, happy pup! She was so responsive and did an awesome job answering all of our questions, as first time pup parents. Her facilities were clean. You can tell she cares for her dogs and where her puppies are going. Her process was seamless and good dog did a great job matching us. Her prices were reasonable as well. Can’t say enough great things about Red feather Aussies!

We had a wonderful experience with Skye! She kept us involved with our puppy prior to pickup and always made sure to send lots of pictures! Our dog was advertised as being bred for temperament and that was certainly what we have received! The land that they raise the dogs on is a “puppy paradise” we can’t recommend Red Feather Aussie’s enough!
