Meet the breeder

I'm Tori J., the breeder behind Ridgemere Retrievers located in Southington, OH. Family raised Labrador Retrievers bred with love, health testing and care. Our pups grow up in a warm home, well socialized and are ready to become loyal companions whether in the show ring or curled up at your feet. http://ridgemere-retrievers-1.showit.site/.

Q. & A. with Tori

  • Why did you start breeding?

In 2016 I fell in love with chocolate Labradors. That passion naturally grew into wanting to preserve everything that makes them special. After veterinary technician school and dedicating years to gaining knowledge and doing research I felt confident taking the next steps with my best girl and responsible breeding.
  • What makes your program special?

These little guys first steps are right here in my home and I carefully choose where their next and hopefully last ones will be. They are family to me. My parents have their OFA clearances and full genetic panels. Puppies are raised well socialized and set up for success at their forever home.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Tori

Tori has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Tori partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“Puppies are matched to their families once temperament can be properly evaluated, typically around 6-7 weeks of age. I take time to get to know each puppy's personality and each family's lifestyle to ensure the best possible fit for a lifelong partnership.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test
