Meet the breeder

I'm Melodie S., the breeder behind Riverwood Dachshunds located in Big Lake, MN. I am an in-home breeder of quality, healthy and beautiful standard Wirehaired Dachshunds. My dogs are AKC registered and proven champions in the ring as well as in the hearts of their forever families. My goal is to produce a great representation of the Dachshund and to continue improving the line with each generation.

Q. & A. with Melodie

  • Why did you start breeding?

I bought another Dachshund from a breeder after our previous had passed. I started attending puppy and obedience classes, then got into conformation show classes and met a brilliant mentor. I began educating myself about the breed and breeding best practices. I am still learning about this wonderful breed; you can never know too much about the subject. It has been an absolute joy of a journey, and I am so happy to be able to share these wonderful dogs with other loving families and individuals.
  • What makes your program special?

I pay close attention to the quality and health of my dogs. I do not breed my dogs unless they are fully healthy and genetically tested. I am dedicated to always having responsible policies when it comes to breeding, socializing, and training my pups. I take pride in raising well-tempered and socialized puppies who can excel in the show ring or as beloved companions. I love what I do and truly want the very best for my puppies and their forever families.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have wirehaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and wild boar. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
