I'm Reuben Y., the breeder behind Rustic Barn Kennels located in Saint Ignatius, MT. We breed high-quality puppies. We love what we do and are committed to producing well-bred, healthy puppies for loving homes. Our puppies become integral members of our family. They’re a daily part of everything we do until they’re ready to join their forever families.
Q. & A. with Reuben
Why did you start breeding?
I got my first dog when I was 13, a dachshund crossed with a rat terrier. I’ve been interested in dogs and raising them ever since. When I met my wife, Rachel, she didn’t like dogs and I had to convince her how much fun they are and now she loves our Corgis.
What makes your program special?
We take the health of our puppies extremely seriously making sure they are health tested and have the best start with wonderful healthy parents. We have such a love for our puppies as well as our parent dogs. Very soon after starting our breeding program, we decided to invest in a very nice kennel that gives all of our dogs a very comfortable home. They have plenty of outdoor play room just outside the kennel when they are not outside running in our yard playing with our family.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and fawn, fawn, sable, white and black, white and red, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in a kennel on my property.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Rustic Barn Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Pembroke Welsh Corgis.
Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
