I'm Amy D., the breeder behind Salty Dog Retrievers located in Mattapoisett, MA. Our dogs are bred for health and temperament with a strong regard for the breed standard. Our dogs are proven in the conformation ring as well as in performance sports to prove their beauty intelligence and athleticism. I believe the Labrador is the perfect family dog and strive to produce exceptional puppies who are sound and happy family pets.
Q. & A. with Amy
Why did you start breeding?
I first fell in love with Labradors as a kid when we got our first yellow lab “Hiker”. She was the perfect family dog and was a favorite amongst the kids (and parents) in the neighborhood. Shortly after she passed at 12 years old, I acquired another yellow lab named Pete. His personality and same kind temperament had me hooked. As my passion for the breed has grown I decided I wanted to become more involved by showing and breeding labs. I hope to share my love for Labradors with others by producing wonderful family dogs.
What makes your program special?
Heath is a top priority for me. All my dogs have OFA clearances for hips, elbows, heart and eyes as well as a full genetic panel for breed specific diseases before being considered for breeding.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
