Anne W.

Breeder of Golden Retrievers

Meet the breeder

I'm Anne W., the breeder behind Shadyview Farm located in Gaston, IN. I breed for health, temperament, and longevity. I compete in AKC events with my dogs. I breed to better the breed. I make every decision with the best intention of the dog. I do everything I can to ensure the puppies have everything they need to develop into healthy and happy dogs.

Q. & A. with Anne

  • Why did you start breeding?

I partnered with a veterinarian and his vet tech who bred dogs for 10 years in the Midwest. Then, I went to every class and lecture I could find.
  • What makes your program special?

I am honest. I do not talk anyone into anything. My husband and I are available for any assistance needed.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Parent health testing

Shadyview Farm reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Golden Retrievers.

  • Elbow Dysplasia (Preliminary)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Brucellosis, Dentition, Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Animal Genetics Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
