I'm John M., the breeder behind Shanghai Pugs located in Lafayette, LA. Shanghai Pugs are raised in my home with attention to every detail. All of our breeding stock are health tested and PDE clear. We raise our puppies with constant love to ensure a stable and friendly adult. Our puppies are litter trained, microchipped and have age appropriate vaccinations and worming.

Why did you start breeding?
We breed to produce our next show prospect of correct type structure and movement always considering health and temperament to produce the very best Pugs. Whether show or companion, Shanghai Pugs, " Simply the Best"What makes your program special?
We are a small boutique breeder. We breed to produce our next show prospect or your future companion. Our dogs Adhere to the AKC breed standard, have correct movement and temperment and are a joy to be around. Please be familiar with pugs temperature 🌡 requirements. Pugs are extremely susceptible to fatal heat stroke due to their flat faces (brachycephalic) making it hard for them to pant and cool down. Temperatures over 75 degrees require caution; keep them indoors with air-conditioning or fans, especially on hot, humid days. Symptoms include heavy, noisy panting, dizziness, drooling, and bright red gums. Emergency Actions & Prevention Immediate Action: If heat stroke is suspected, move them to a cool area, offer water, and use cool, wet towels. Do not use ice, which can damage skin. Contact a vet immediately, as this can be fatal within 10 minutes. We are here for the life of your pug and offer advice and assistance for all our fur babies for life.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Getting a puppy from John
John has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, John partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“Champion sired male companion puppies are 1800.00 , females are 2500.00 . Champion Sired Show prospects are 5000.00 Puppies are AKC Registered, microchipped and have age appropriate shots and worming. Companion boys are 1800.00 , Companion girls are 2500.00 . Show potential prospects with full registration are 5000.00. 500.00 reserves a puppy of a color and sex from our next litters. Deposits are honored in the order received and usually fulfilled within 12 months. Deposits are deducted from purchase price.”

Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Pug Dog Encephalitis (PDE)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
