And Then There Were Two. The dust has settled. The yard that once echoed with nine now rests quieter… homes chosen, paths set. But not all stories rush to their ending. Two remain. Anwen, our cream girl, stands with a steady kind of fire. She’s sharp, aware, and deeply connected to her people, the kind that watches first, then steps forward with purpose. There’s drive in her, real drive, the kind that could take her into the field, into sport, or into the life of an active home that wants more than just a companion. And yet, she carries herself with balance, able to settle, to think, to be present. She’s not just intelligent, she uses it. And then there’s the black phantom male, Soren. He is quieter in his strength. Gentle by nature, steady in presence, the kind of dog that doesn’t need to prove anything to be felt. He moves through the world with an easy confidence, content to be by your side, whether that’s on the trail, in the home, or wherever life leads next. Not a pushover, just grounded. The kind that fits, without forcing. Both are 11 weeks old, raised in the middle of life, not apart from it. Handled, exposed, shaped with intention from the very beginning. They are the last of this litter. Not overlooked. Not passed by. Just waiting for the homes that are meant for them.

Today was a full grooming day here at Shieldwall. Each puppy was bathed, nails trimmed, and coats carefully blown out, followed by a light groom for their mother. These early experiences are an important part of raising confident, well-adjusted puppies who are comfortable with regular care. As a fellow professional once said, ‘If you want a poodle, you need to learn to poodle… and that means learning the art of grooming.’ It’s a process that takes time, patience, and skill. We have a deep appreciation for the groomers who do this work so beautifully every day. Lova, of course, supervised the entire process with great interest

At nine weeks old, the puppies recently completed a structured exposure outing to the Everglades. They traveled safely in a climate-controlled vehicle and were given frequent breaks in a clean, contained setup in the truck bed with a rug, litter box, and fresh water. As a fun part of the outing, these Florida-raised puppies experienced local sights, including spotting wildlife and visiting a well-known regional landmark. They handled the entire experience with confidence and curiosity. This type of early, positive exposure is a key part of our program, helping develop adaptable, resilient puppies prepared for a variety of environments. Three puppies will be going home next week, one has already been placed, and four are currently available to approved homes.

Pool splashes, red ball chases, and a little “agility practice” (heavy on the chaos, light on the rules 😂). These babies are getting braver, bolder, and just a little bit faster every day.

First time on the agility course and they didn’t hesitate. Tunnels, flirt pole, and even the kitty pool for new texture, all taken in stride. Confidence like this is built, not accidental.

Today was a big (and very fun) day for the puppies 🐾 They had their first supervised trip into the backyard with mom, and it quickly turned into quite the adventure. Lots of exploring, lots of confidence, and not much hesitation from this group. New sights, sounds, and textures were met with curiosity instead of fear, which is exactly what we’re aiming for. Mom even got involved and played with them, which made the whole experience even more positive. We love seeing their personalities continue to develop as they grow.

Almost five weeks old and growing stronger every day. Lova is still the most devoted mama, making sure everyone gets their turn at the milk bar. Personalities are starting to peek through, curious little explorers by day and cuddle piles by night. The Vikings are growing.

The Hearth & Home litter stepped beyond the den for their first outdoor adventure today. Fresh air, new smells, and a whole world waiting to be explored.

Poodle
About Lova
Lova is a UKC Champion Standard Poodle with excellent athletic ability and a steady, thoughtful temperament. She is active, driven, and loves physical outlets, with a naturally high prey drive and enthusiasm for sports and training. She can be shy when first meeting new people, but she warms up quickly once comfortable. Lova is well traveled, very well behaved in public, and unfazed by environmental stressors such as fireworks. She thrives in structured, active homes that appreciate a clear-headed, athletic dog.
Good health testing
Good level
Shieldwall Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Standard Poodles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
