I'm Jaime R., the breeder behind Shimmyrlea Standard Poodles located in Powhatan, VA. My dogs are part of my family, my partners in life, and my passion. Therapy, Rally O, class Demo dogs, FastCat, or a day lounging at home-they enjoy it all. My ultimate goal is to produce versatile puppies that can be partners to their people in every situation & spread joy wherever they go.

Why did you start breeding?
After years in various animal related fields and involved with numerous breeds, I fell in love with Standard Poodles. I’d always wanted to breed dogs, so I found responsible breeders willing to take a chance and mentor me. After 8+ years of research, planning, and preparation, I welcomed my first little in 2021.What makes your program special?
My goal is to honor God in all that I do, and dog breeding is no exception. As a trainer/breeder, I strive to give my babies a great start in life, which includes finding each pup the ideal forever family. I use a combination of Puppy culture, Avidog, and Absolute Dogs protocols, as well as my own experience to help my babies be the best partners they can be for their families.What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Getting a puppy from Jaime
Jaime has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.
Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.
Price
“The price includes full AKC registration w/co-ownership contract, microchip, age appropriate puppy shots, deworming, and a health check prior to going home. I do not take deposits. Puppy choices will be offered after 7 weeks. I reserve the right to rescind offer of a puppy at my discretion prior to pickup/payment if I feel it is best for any reason.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Program update on 19 June 2025 •…Hot day in Virginia and the ac is on the fritz in the house, so puppies (and people) are staying cool in the shade with the baby pool full of ice water and some great big fans! All these puppies are loving the water these days.

Litter update on 18 June 2025 •…Puppies are now 10 weeks old and starting to go to new homes. Reports are that they are settling in nicely with their new families and spreading joy already. Only 2 boys still available…health checked, utd on vax, microchipped…ready and waiting for the right homes. Exposed to sights, sounds, cats, kids, delivery drivers, crates, grooming table, car rides.

Litter update on 03 June 2025 •…These puppies are now 8 weeks old and almost ready for new homes. They are smart and affectionate, very people oriented puppies. They are actively learning to potty outside, love the cot, and think bully sticks are a wonderful treat.

About Chrome
Chrome is a lovable, goofy boy who is super confident, stable, and up for anything. He loves people, especially kids, gets along with other dogs, and is good around smaller animals. He competes in Rally Obedience and has his TKI, CGCA & CGCU. He is my primary obedience class demo dog and our 4-H club mascot.

Parent health testing
Excellent level
Shimmyrlea Standard Poodles reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Standard Poodles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Standard Veterinary Blood Panel, Temperament Test, Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic Diversity Test, von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I), PawPrint Genetic Panel (Breed Specific), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
