Q. & A. with Amanda
Why did you start breeding?
I began this journey in 2024. I have a love for Dachshunds and knew in my heart I would love to be part of preserving this beautiful breed, but I wanted to do it the 'RIGHT' way. But my big question to myself was, "What is the 'right' way?" That's where my studying started and throwing myself into the AKC Conformation world began.
What makes your program special?
I've learned that there are not many breeder's in my state that are active in AKC Conformation. If you aren't out in the ring, first hand experiencing and learning, then how do you know what is 'correct conformation'? I take pride in actively pursuing knowledge, experience, and mentors to learn from. All dogs have full OFA health certifications recommended by the Dachshund Club of America.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include cream and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Dove
Dove is our house princess! She has a soft, loving and loyal personality. However, she is always one of the first ones to start a good play tussle with the other dogs. She is the dog that I learned to compete in AKC shows with and she has the best temperament and is so eager to please. Dove earned her Puppy of Achievement Award while showing in AKC Conformation. An intelligent, loyal, and well rounded girl.
Excellent health testing
Patellar Luxation, Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA), +1 more.
Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Silver State Dachshunds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dachshunds.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
