I'm Samantha O., the breeder behind Simpson Dachshunds located in Yuba City, CA. I enjoy competing in AKC conformation, earth dog, and barn hunting with my dogs. I customize my desensitization to each owners needs to make the transition to their new home even easier, along with traditional desensitization and age appropriate training activities.
Q. & A. with Samantha
Why did you start breeding?
My first experiences with dachshund was with my grandmother who always had a pack of dachshunds running her house. I fell in love with the long bodied, barky dogs. I can’t have my own children so raising puppies like my own children fills my heart. I want to give other people the possibility to love dachshunds as much as I do.
What makes your program special?
I want to create dogs that are as healthy as possible. I health test my breeding dogs and only pair dogs that are genetically compatible. I aim to produce dogs that have the original dachshund drive to hunt and tunnel because I believe these are important to preserve the breed. I especially value homes that will show in AKC events to continue proving our dogs are top quality.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include piebald, red, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Litter update on 31 July •
Bam and Echos litter is 8 weeks old and it’s almost time for them to go to their new families! They are so playful and adventurous. Nothing beats the sound of six doxie babies running through the house. It’s been a pleasure raising and caring for these little beans. I will be sad to see them leave but I know they have the most loving families.

About Bam
Bam is cover of Vogue worthy. With her long luscious locks and beautifully divine face. Her looks aren’t her only qualities, shes a lover, a protector and a friend. Bam has strong dachshund instincts. She was bred to hunt badgers and has no issue transferring those instincts to rodents for AKC sports or even suspicious people a little too close to her mom! Bam would never hurt a fly but she will be the first to bark off a threat in true watchdog fashion. After she does a thorough sniff-inspection she will be your bff and kisses are mandatory. Bam has no problem keeping up with the big dogs on hikes and adventures, even out working dogs 5x her size. She is also a perfect couch buddy on lazy days.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Simpson Dachshunds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dachshunds.
Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
