I'm Kevin F., the breeder behind Sioux River Retrievers located in Hawarden, IA. We breed All-purpose Labrador Retrievers as they were intended to be - family and hunting companions that possess: Performance versatility, Beauty, Genetic Health, Tractability, and Kind Dispositions. We specialize in matching families with well-socialized puppies that fit a variety of lifestyles.

Why did you start breeding?
We acquired our first AKC registered Labrador Retriever in 1991 and enjoyed Fannie Mae as our lone family dog throughout her life. We were forever hooked on the breed’s ideal “family dog” temperament and adaptability to a wide range of training disciplines. We love our Labs and occasionally produce puppies for others to love - and in so doing, making many new friends along the way.What makes your program special?
We believe in having a lot of open communication with our future puppy parents and do our best to match puppy personalities with a family's activities, lifestyle, and goals. We spend a lot of time helping our Lab puppies have a healthy, happy start in life, as well as evaluating each individual puppy for the qualities and character you are looking for in your next companion.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and chocolate. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Litter update on 03 June •Perfect side-by-side Artificial Insemination took place this past weekend with our canine repro vet. Very excited about this litter arriving soon. Will update again when pregnancy is confirmed.

About Tira
Tira has AKC champion points from a limited show career to date. Her sire is a Grand Champion show dog and Junior Hunter and has several progeny that do therapy work. Tira’s mom is a Master Hunter who is sired by a show champion. Tira is super friendly and playful, loves to retrieve with drive and good lining and marking ability. Has a great "off switch" and enjoys just chilling by herself or with us in the house. She’s great with other dogs - making friends fast and playing immediately. Tira was whelped in a therapy home where Yellow Rose Labradors sends some of their pregnant females to whelp then have the puppies socialized and get early training/evaluation for therapy work. She has several siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles active in therapy work, so that friendly, patient, chill demeanor runs very deep in her breeding. She was a very relaxed puppy and continues to be very people-oriented.

About Chuck
Chuck is our black male who carries yellow and chocolate. He is out of our matriarch, Shamrock Acres Sioux-Z-Q (retired), and sired by a very cool looking AKC Champion with a Senior Hunter title - GCH Deep Run Good Time Charley SH. He has a wonderful show pedigree with several dual titled dogs - his grandfather and great grandfather being AKC Champion - Master Hunters. Chuck is started in field work preparing for his Hunt Test career - having a lot of natural drive and ability to mark and retrieve birds in varied settings. He’s also an awesome looking dog with classic Labrador conformation. He has a very nice disposition - loves to quietly hang out with me in the house, being very friendly with guests and other dogs and yet can rev it up when doing his field work, which he loves. He stays in control, is very obedient and willing, and is a lot of fun to handle.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
