Meet the breeder

I'm John G., the breeder behind Smith River Retrievers located in Reedsport, OR. We work with a pure love attitude. With health and wellness being our number one concern. The goal we set and which I believe is still the most important, is to produce healthy puppies that make a well-rounded character in an adult dog. Sometimes the most ordinary things can be made extraordinary simply by doing them with a Labrador Retriever.

Q. & A. with John

  • Why did you start breeding?

I've always had Labradors and been an avid Hunter. It was something I always wanted to do. As I got older and construction was no longer an option. I was lucky enough to be able to start doing this. It is the most gratifying work I've ever done, and also the most fulfilling. We love seeing the smiling faces of the new families as they received their new family member.
  • What makes your program special?

We care 4 the health and well-being of all of our family first. We feed what we feel is the top of the line feed for our pups and dogs. They receive top-of-the-line vet care and health supplements. As I am retired I am able to spend as much time as I would like which is a lot. My time involves taking my dogs for their daily runs and swims. Also, socialization is key before sending a puppy to their new family.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
