Meet the breeder

I'm Melanie A., the breeder behind Snowbird Border Collies located in Powder Springs, GA. Our family of 11 children (and 22 grandchildren) has been carefully breeding high quality puppies for 30 years. Generational OFA certifications and Generational AKC Champions mark our lines. Of primary importance are the dispositions of the parents we breed and the socialization of their puppies. We, and all the grandchildren when about, handle our pups every day, interacting, playing and turning them upside down, touching their paws, teaching them to look at us and engage. We take every opportunity to help our pups connect with humans. We offer a health guarantee and contract and enjoy making new friends with those who get our puppies. Just this week, a friend who homed 2 of our puppies 14 and 15 years ago, returned to visit this litter as her puppies had passed after a long and happy life. Located in West Cobb County we have a beautiful property with kids, chickens, and our 2 dogs living the life. Our first border collies were Dixie and Spot, who had a fantastic run of 16 years and we still miss them decades later. Our homeschooled children learned responsibility and entrepreneurship from the lessons taught by our precious and well cared for dogs. Give us a call and schedule an appointment to see these exceptional creatures and meet the fam! We encourage families to do their research as a Border Collie is an amazing breed with high intelligence, athleticism and energy.

Q. & A. with Melanie

  • Why did you start breeding?

We purchased our first Border from a local dairy farm some 28 years ago and we were hooked, completely impressed by the intelligence, athleticism and natures of Border Collies and wanted to share that love. Our children loved dogs and teaching them how to responsibly and properly care for and love these beautiful animals was part of the impetus to raise puppies.
  • What makes your program special?

We are special not only because of the generational excellence of our lines but because of the interaction we provide with our pups. Puppies are born in our living room, and live their first few weeks in that corner of life, being handled by our plethora of grandchildren, nurtured and carried around by human touch until they go to their new homes. For their time with us, they are handled every day, by a variety of people. It makes our pups socially adept and calm for the breed. Our parents are gentle souls with the heart of a frisbee dog. Boo was a finished champion in short order, also has her CGC, Farm Dog. She has OFA excellent hips, normal elbows and eyes. Roku, who is retired, is an incredible athlete, beautiful and absolutely adorable, loving people. He has OFA good hips, normal elbows and eyes. We follow a Guardianship model for our program with our breeding pups going to families. Our girl, Jester is a blue merle athlete with Good OFA hips certification, normal elbows and cardio certification. Excellent disposition and strong herding instincts. She looks like a working line and is lean and quick and an amazing athlete. Cluny, our new gold boy is a finished AKC champion and his preliminary OFA certification is excellent hips and OFA normal elbows and eyes. His disposition is calm and his structure and coat is gorgeous.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have rough coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and white and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.
