Jinnie S.

Breeder of Cardigan Welsh Corgis

Meet the breeder

I'm Jinnie S., the breeder behind Solstice Kennels located in Lilburn, GA. Our dogs are a living history of their breed and as Preservation breeders, we preserve, protect and promote the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. We work to breed healthy dogs with appropriate conformation and temperament.

Q. & A. with Jinnie

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started like many people with a dog that needed training. I enrolled in the local AKC Obedience Club class with my GSP and learned about the Dog Fancy. That class led me to conformation events and in 1996 I acquired my beautiful Windy and that started me on the road to becoming a breeder. Windy had 1 litter that included the GSPCA National Sweepstakes winner. I added Cardigans in 2000.
  • What makes your program special?

My breeding program is small but mighty. I create living art. We breed to the standard using individuals that not only honor the history of the breed but also bring traits that move the breed forward. We test and tell. I personally compete in dog sports which test the mental and physical ability of our Cardigans. We provide a lifetime of support and encouragement to our puppy buyers.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Excellent level

Solstice Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Cardigan Welsh Corgis.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • PRA, Rod-Cone Dysplasia 3 (rcd3), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), OFA/CHIC DNA Repository

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
