Meet the breeder

I'm Renee H., the breeder behind Solstice Newfoundlands located in Sacramento, CA. My program focuses on the NCA breed standard, correct confirmation, temperament and health testing.

Q. & A. with Renee

  • Why did you start breeding?

After success in the confirmation ring and spending time engaging in performance activities I wanted to help others understand the complexity of this beautiful breed taking every opportunity to teach anyone who was interested in learning. The hallmark of the breed is their sweet loving nature. Following close behind is there ability to throw slingers that will hang from your 12 ft ceiling.
  • What makes your program special?

My program is focused on moderation, athleticism, and temperament. They are strong, powerful and agile not overdone. I believe a more moderate dog is healthier minimizing risk of injury while performing their working dog tasks; water rescue and drafting. Much thought goes into choosing breeding pairs, while there will never be a “perfect” dog we do our best to come as close as we can.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
