I'm Laura O., the breeder behind Somerset Kennels located in Princess Anne, MD. At Somerset Kennels we focus on breeding excellence. Our dogs regularly compete in the show ring and are proven champions. Puppies are bred for health, temperament, and to meet conformation standards. We strive for all our dogs to be a perfect blend of champion show quality and wonderful family companions.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    After years of participating in breed shows and events, breeding was a natural next step! As a proud member of the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac, I am committed to maintaining and improving on an excellent pedigree.
  • What makes your program special?

    We produce excellent companions. We understand the importance of dog health, temperament, and structure. Every breeding decision is made accordingly. We also proudly offer a lifetime of support and community! We host an annual meet-up for all our Somerset pups.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
