I'm Isabella H., the breeder behind Southern Belle Kennels located in Dothan, AL. We’re devoted to ensuring there are healthy puppies for others to enjoy and we do so by responsibly growing this incredible breed. Our hope is to prepare each of our puppies with thoughtful socialization so they have the best foundation to seamlessly transition into their new homes.
Q. & A. with Isabella
Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding after serving a mission for God's church, starting my journey with Labradors and Golden Retrievers, which I’ve loved my whole life. After studying health clearances, I strive to ensure these pups go to great homes and become a blessing in their families’ lives. Breeding started because I wanted others to experience the joy of having a dog, a true best friend.
What makes your program special?
I pray that my puppies not only go to loving homes but that they become a blessing in their families’ lives. It’s important to me that you have the best experience, which is why I offer training if you’re ever interested in returning. My labs are incredibly smart, and I know your pup will be just the same. Dogs can truly impact your life if you let them.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are chocolate. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Maggie, mom
Labrador Retriever
About Maggie
Meet Maggie May, our sweet and steady chocolate Labrador! From the moment I brought her home as a puppy, Maggie May’s calm and gentle nature was clear, making her a perfect balance to my lively golden retriever, Nala. Growing up with both Labradors and golden retrievers in my family, I knew I wanted to raise these breeds and share their incredible qualities with others. Maggie May was more than I could’ve dreamed—my quiet buddy, loyal companion, and swimming partner for life.
Maggie and I share a love for the water, and when she took her first swim, she joined me in the water of her own accord, instantly sealing our bond. She has a strong, nurturing spirit, which shines when she has her litters. Maggie handles the process with impressive independence and resilience, and I’m always proud of her strength as a mother.
With good OFA hips, normal elbows, and a clear genetic panel from Embark, Maggie May is everything I’d hoped for in a Labrador. She produces exceptional puppies, carrying on her calm and friendly temperament that everyone falls in love with. Maggie May isn’t just a dog—she’s family, and I couldn’t be prouder of the chocolate Lab who started it all.
Gator, dad
Labrador Retriever
About Gator
Meet Gator, our intelligent and spirited boy who brings so much energy and joy into our lives! Gator has an incredible jumping ability—think kangaroo-level leaps! When he gets excited to go for a ride, he doesn’t need the tailgate down; he jumps straight into our 2018 F150, tailgate up! Unlike our other dogs, Maggie and Nala, I didn’t get Gator as a puppy; I found him when he was 2 years old and immediately saw his potential. As a dog trainer, I've built a strong bond with Gator through dedicated training, and we’ve developed a special connection that shows in his eager-to-please temperament.
Gator is well-loved by everyone he meets, with many admiring his handsome looks and calm, friendly personality. My husband, Kai, and Gator are the ultimate wrestling buddies, and their playful energy fills our home with laughter. Gator's a healthy, happy dog, with good OFA hips, normal elbows, and complete DNA testing through Embark. He carries one copy of the ABCA4 gene, but this does not impact his breeding when paired with a clear dam. Gator has sired healthy, strong puppies with Maggie May, and we feel blessed by the joy and vitality he passes on.
With a love for fetch, swimming, treats, and exploring, Gator is always up for adventure. We’re excited to start learning hunting skills together, which will be a fun new chapter in his training. Gator is more than a pet; he’s an irreplaceable member of our family, a loyal companion, and a handsome stud with a great heart and temperament.
