Meet the breeder

I'm Tammy M., the breeder behind Southern Dachshunds located in Killeen, TX. We are a family-run breeder of quality AKC registered Dachshunds. We focus on temperament, coat color, and genetics in our program. Each pup is cherished from the moment of birth and given the best start we can possibly provide. I'm a licensed breeder in the Great State of Texas I've recently dipped my toes into the world of dog sports, some of my litters will be started on scent introduction as well as early neurological stimulation.

Q. & A. with Tammy

  • Why did you start breeding?

We fell in love with the Dachshund breed with our very first male (Winston). He had the best personality and it got me started on doing research of the breed and my passion grew from there. It started as just a hobby, but after seeing how happy these puppies can make families, my passion grew. I love keeping up with families for years after they have picked their puppy up from me!
  • What makes your program special?

Our love for Dachshunds is reflected in the personal touch we put into making sure the addition of your new puppy is a truly joyful experience. We are very careful about temperament, beauty, and genetics in our program, and every breeding decision is made accordingly. We want nothing more than to see each and every one of our puppies shine! Each litter is started with ENS and some also with ESI.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include longhaired, smooth, and wirehaired coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, piebald, cream, red, wild boar, black, chocolate, fawn (isabella), brindle, fawn (isabella) and tan, fawn (isabella) and cream, chocolate and tan, chocolate and cream, blue and cream, blue and tan, black and tan, and dapple. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Tammy was friendly and responsive from the first time I messaged her about a chocolate and cream little girl she had posted. She is now affectionately called “Lucy.” She was the runt of the litter and was just a tiny little thing when I got her…I learned very quickly that she might be tiny but she is also mighty! She is the best little girl I’ve had and I’ve had dachshunds my whole life. I am so blessed to have found Lucy, and Tammy who clearly has a love and passion to breed some of the best daxies around!

I can't say enough about Tammy and Southern Dachshunds. Her years of experience in the breeding business is well apparent as all of her animals are well cared for and loved. She thoroughly explained the paperwork I was given and also showed me how to apply for AKC registration and the benefits you get. This customer would highly recommend adopting a puppy from Southern Dachshunds.

Tammy was amazing to work with from the beginning! This was my first time using the app and she was quick to reply and very professional. I was looking for a mini wire-haired male for my parents who live in Fort Worth and, when they asked to meet Tammy and our potential new puppy in Killeen, she said yes with no hesitation. We were so impressed by the space she has dedicated to the breeding pups, her extensive knowledge of the breed, and just the quality of the dogs there. It’s very clear that she puts a ton of time, money and effort into caring for and protecting the integrity of all of her dachshunds! Also, our little chocolate and tan wire hair Luigi couldn’t be more perfect 😊

Tammy was fantastic to work with. Her knowledge and expertise of the Dachshund breed is exceptional. She was very communicative and friendly throughout the process, and even sent us weekly pictures of our little guy! We were also able to meet him before the pick-up, which was great.
