Meet the breeder

I'm Emily S., the breeder behind SS Australian Shepherds located in Ashland, OH. We raise health tested Australian Shepherds, Corgis, and Lagotti with low to moderate herding drive. Whether you are looking for a fun competition dog or a wonderful family pet, it is our goal to breed, raise, and match you with the dog of your dreams! Our dogs are raised on our 18 acre horse farm. They are also socialized with our Ragdolls cats!

Q. & A. with Emily

  • Why did you start breeding?

When I was in middle school my parents bred our Labrador Retrievers. Somehow I ended up whelping and raising the puppies without much help or guidance. The third (and last) litter had to have an emergency c section on a Sunday when there were no vet techs available so I got to help the vet with the surgery. It was amazing and I learned so much from that experience. I began raising Aussies at age 19.
  • What makes your program special?

Our goal is to help our clients choose the right puppy based on evaluations of the puppies temperaments at 7.5 weeks old. Our dogs are family and they are screened before being bred. We screen for type, disposition, level of working drive and health. We go above and beyond the required health testing to ensure that our puppies have the best possible chance for a long, healthy life.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Lagotto Romagnolo puppies include brown, orange roan, orange, and off-white. Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppies include blue and black and tan. Australian Shepherd puppies include black, red merle, blue merle, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Emily, and SS Australian Shepherds, are a wonderful breeder to work with! She was very responsive to all of our questions and always happy to provide any information we wanted or needed. We brought home our new puppy (Mamie Eisenhower), now named Sadie via a 4-hour car ride, and she was calm the whole way home. It was amazing! Emily really cares about her puppies and takes the extra time to assure they are well-socialized, healthy and on the right track for when they find their forever home. We are very impressed with how brave our little puppy is and how adaptive she is to new situations and people. I would highly recommend this breeder for anyone looking for a sweet Aussiedoodle puppy!

Emily is wonderful to work with and truly cares about the health of her puppies. She is available for questions (even a year later!) and understands Australian shepherds as a breed. Our pup came to us nearly potty trained and well-prepared for obedience training. Emily understood his temperament and set us up to be successful with lots of good puppy info. We love our curious, intelligent, furry family member!
