I'm MICHELLE S., the breeder behind Stafford Shelties located in Los Lunas, NM. We dont have many litters because our dogs are our babies first. We have a pairing of some great lines. Our current litter's Dame's brother is tearing up the Agility Circuit in Calfornia, just received 398 out of 400 AKC. Our Male's lines come from Agility as well. Our dogs are excellent at being by their owners!
Q. & A. with MICHELLE
Why did you start breeding?
My husband found he male of his dreams. I already had my female, and things took natural progression. We had one litter a year for 5 years, then retired our pups, and started our look for our next pair, that would fit in our family, and just went from there.
What makes your program special?
We take time to look for just the right dogs for us. First and foremost they are family. They go on vacation, hunting, and camping first. Our dogs excel in what ever is asked of them from Agility to Couch Potatoes, they just want to be with their owners and please.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable and white, white black and tan, blue merle white and tan, and black white and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Stafford Shelties reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Shetland Sheepdogs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, von Willebrand Disease III (vWD III), Dermatomyositis, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
