I'm Helen H., the breeder behind Starlight's American Cockers located in Hutto, TX. Our Cockers are family members and are well socialized. We have show quality dogs available for those interested in conformation. An interview and contract are required for the sale of all dogs, pet or show. For pet quality dogs, a spay/neuter or limited registration agreement is also required.
Q. & A. with Helen
Why did you start breeding?
Four years ago, I fulfilled my dream and started showing and breeding. I work with a terrific mentor who has helped me navigate the show world, show, and breed my grand champion. He works with me to make sure every pairing will be an improvement on the parents. In My dam's 1st litter, 2 of her puppies are Champions, 1, an AKC GCh silver and a Westminster Select Bitch in the black variety 2022, andBest of opposite sex in the black variety in 2023
What makes your program special?
I only work with select breeders whose programs I trust. I never breed an animal who's health screens are not complete and to standard. My animals grow up as family members. I stay in touch with all people whom I have sold animals to, often advising on behavioral modifications, dietary recommendations, and grooming techniques.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and white, red, black and tan, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Helen
Helen has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.
Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.
Price
Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $1,300 - $2,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.
Pay over time with Klarna.
“The price includes first and second round of vaccinations, deworming, health guarantee. Deposits are only taken after an agreed upon purchase. Once I remove the puppy as available it becomes much more difficult and expensive for me to maintain, and unfair to the pup, and other buyers.”
Contract & health guarantee
Helen may provide a written contract or
health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps
protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you
both have a clear understanding of the terms of your

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Starlight's American Cockers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Cocker Spaniels.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
