I'm Barbara S., the breeder behind Storybook Maltese located in Branson, MO. We’re a small, hands-on program with DNA-tested, Champion AKC Maltese. Raised in our home—not kennels—we focus on health, temperament, and beauty. Many become cherished companions, therapy dogs, or show prospects. With 20+ years of experience, we’re passionate about preserving this magical breed.

Why did you start breeding?
Breeding began as a passion for the Maltese breed over 20 years ago. I fell in love with their beauty, intelligence, and soulful nature. What started with one beloved companion grew into a mission to preserve and improve the breed through health-tested, Champion lines. It’s become a lifelong calling—one puppy, one family, one fairytale at a time.What makes your program special?
At Storybook Maltese, we blend 20+ years of experience with a deep passion for the breed. Our puppies come from DNA-tested, Champion lines and are raised in our home with love and intention. We prioritize health, temperament, and beauty, with many puppies becoming therapy or show dogs. Every family receives lifelong support—we don’t just raise puppies, we create legacies.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Getting a puppy from Barbara
Barbara has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.
Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.
Price
“Champion-sired puppies are $4,000. Puppies from litters where both sire and dam are AKC Champions are $5,000. All come from health-tested parents and include our full puppy package. A $1,500 non-refundable deposit holds your puppy and applies toward the total. Picks are made in the order deposits are received. Deposits may transfer to future litters if needed.”
Contract & health guarantee
Barbara may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
OFA/CHIC DNA Repository
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
