I'm Alexis T., the breeder behind Sun Ridge Labradors located in Pittsburgh, PA. Here at Sun Ridge we strive to produce puppies for all venues such as service dogs, sport dogs, companions, etc. We test all our breeding dogs thoroughly through OFA (hips/elbows/eyes/genetics) before breeding occurs. We also participate in dock diving placing at both regionals and nationals.
Q. & A. with Alexis
Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding while I was training with my personal dog named Sunny. During that time I was introduced to several incredible breeders who ignited my passion in dog breeding. I found the world of dog breeding endlessly fascinating so I began my research to educate myself on how to responsibly breed dogs. Learning how to read pedigrees, health testing, competition, etc.
What makes your program special?
My breeding program is unique because I am able to dedicate all of my attention to my litters. I work from home so I am able to do more one on one time with each of my puppies to start the training foundations and make the transition to their new homes easier on both my families and the puppies. Puppies are raised with puppy culture and come with limited AKC registered and prepaid AKC Reunite.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Sun Ridge Labradors reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Labrador Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
