Meet the breeder

I'm Joy B., the breeder behind Synergy Shetland Sheepdogs located in Palestine, TX. We have owned & bred Shelties for over 40 years and have been ASSA members since 1985. We strive to breed dogs that are beautiful, healthy and sound in structure and temperament. We have bred Shelties in the US & in Singapore and have shared our puppies with many satisfied families.

Q. & A. with Joy

  • Why did you start breeding?

My breeding program started with a female that I purchased from Guy Mauldin, Kismet Kennels, in 1978. Since then I have bred many champions as well as dogs that have excelled in obedience, herding and agility.
  • What makes your program special?

We breed Shelties to the standard with emphasis on their ability to perform the functions that they were originally bred to do....guard the home and herd livestock. It is the qualities of soundness in structure and temperament, biddability and willingness to please that have endeared Shelties to all families that own them.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable and white and black white and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • von Willebrand Disease III (vWD III), Shetland Sheepdog Type, PRA, Shetland Sheepdog Type, Animal Genetics Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
