I'm Kayla L., the breeder behind The Luckie Puppy located in Smithville, GA. The Luckie Puppy™ is a boutique Shih Tzu breeding program specializing in temperament-focused, home-raised companion puppies placed intentionally through an early development program.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We fell in love with the shih-tzu and shihpoo breeds and wanted to share our love of them with other families.

  • What makes your program special?

    We raise our puppies in our home and utilize Avidogs principles. Our puppies also go home with a microchip from FiNano, 30 days of insurance from Trupanion, a 1 year health guarantee, 2 sets of shots and a go home bag with their paperwork and goodies.

  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Shihpoo puppies are mini size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Shih Tzu puppies include sable, liver, blue, red, red and white, brindle and white, and brindle. Shihpoo puppies include black gold and white, liver and white, gold and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Kayla

Kayla has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Kayla partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

Price

Puppy prices include a $750 non-refundable deposit and between $1,050 - $2,750 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes registration, first 2 sets of shots, microchip, 30 days of insurance, deworming, health guarantee and socialization. Deposit reserves your puppy until pickup. It is non-refundable but is transferable.”

Contract & health guarantee

Kayla may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. If Kayla offers a contract or guarantee, the details will be personalized by them. If you have any questions or want to know more, don't hesitate to reach out to Kayla directly.

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    This was altogether a great experience. Kayla was super helpful, communicative, and easy to work with. Her puppies are just so amazing as well! They imo obviously come from great parents, as our new puppy 'Piper' is just perfect all around. We couldn't possibly ask for more and she has exceeded our expectations in every way. I could go on and on, but to name a few, she has a beautiful and unqiue coat, is playful and silly yet knows when to stop, behaves herself well around our kids and other dogs, cuddles and shares sleeping arrangements with everyone in the family, is surprisingly well potty trained already at her early age (11 weeks -- she has only gone to bathroom once inside after a week of owenership and it was on a small carpet that resembles grass), and is honestly one of the most good looking and adorable puppies I have ever seen. From behavior to looks and health, she has got it all. I would trust Kayla and the Luckie Puppy 100% for any future introductions to the family and would press friends and family members to consider her when/if ever looking for a new puppy. Very highly recommended.

    I am sorry I haven't done this sooner. We bought our sweet girl from Kayla and its was nothing short of a blessing! From advice to potty train, to delivery and raising our now almost 8 month old perfect little girl! Kayla has continued to answer questions and be available.
