Meet the breeder

I'm Ryan M., the breeder behind Three Point Play located in Edwardsburg, MI. We have 25 years of producing wonderful dogs that love to work, train, and compete all day then come inside to be a loyal and loving family member that’s eager to please. Our pups have become Field Champions, Master Hunters, Champion Dock Divers but have also been therapy and literacy dogs.

Q. & A. with Ryan

  • Why did you start breeding?

I purchased our first labrador retriever puppy as a pet for our children. There was a local trainer that was hosting a dog training seminar. I attended the seminar with no background in hunting or anything like that. I was amazed at all of the things that his dogs could do and their intelligence. From that point on I was hooked on training dogs and trying to create the perfect hunting companion!
  • What makes your program special?

Our breeding program is special because we have been blessed to meet people all across the country through our puppies. We have witnessed our dogs become Field Champions, Master Hunters, Competitive Shed Hunters, dock diving champions, but also serve as therapy, hospice and literacy companions for children and families in need of comfort.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Great level

Three Point Play reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Labrador Retrievers.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), D Locus (Dilute) DNA test

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
