I'm Sarah B., the breeder behind Top Hat Ranch located in La Grange, CA. We are proud to have produced five generations of healthy, happy dogs! We do extensive OFA, genetic, and temperament testing on potential breeding dogs, and provide lifetime support for puppy families. Puppies are raised in home and underfoot, potty tray trained, and socialized with children.
Q. & A. with Sarah
Why did you start breeding?
My mother bred Boston Terriers. When I moved out and went to college, I saved my money to finally buy my first pair of French Bulldogs.
What makes your program special?
Extensive health testing, ethics above all else, the welcoming of families to visit and ask questions anytime, the inclusion of my children in daily socialization, participation in AKC conformation, experience and desire to improve. These are just a few things we pride ourselves on at Top Hat Ranch.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include brindle, cream, and fawn. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Top Hat Ranch reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for French Bulldogs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Spine (OFA, FCI), Tracheal Hypoplasia
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
