I'm Patricia E., the breeder behind Tru-Luv Cockers & Shih Tzu located in Ewa Beach, HI. Our goal is to produce puppies that are capable of participating in sports and conformation, but that are also happy to be companionable, entertaining house dogs that enjoy quieter moments as well. We want our pups to be adaptable and thrive with their families wherever they are.
Q. & A. with Patricia
Why did you start breeding?
I have had cocker spaniels my entire life. I was introduced to dog shows at the age of 18 and decided to purchase a quality cocker spaniel and began showing. I had excellent mentors and pride myself on producing not only dogs competitive in the show ring but most importantly outstanding, healthy family pets.
What makes your program special?
I pride myself on extensive health testing and certifications from OFA and Embark. All of my puppies are AKC registered and microchipped before they leave my home. I offer free boarding and grooming at my home for the life of my puppies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Cocker Spaniel puppies include red, black and tan, black, and buff. Shih Tzu puppies include silver and white, gold and white, black gold and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Excellent level
Tru-Luv Cockers & Shih Tzu reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Cocker Spaniels.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
