Cheryl was wonderful to work with. She was very quick to respond to all of our questions. She really cares about her puppies and who they go to. I live in Idaho and had to fly out to Ohio to pick up our puppy. Cheryl made the process very simple and easy. She was so kind to pack a little bag of goodies to get us through our first several days with our new baby girl. We could not be happier with ZuZu. Cheryl obviously takes time to love and care for the puppies and parents of each litter. My husband and I are very grateful to have found Twin Hickory Ranch and their wonderful Rat Terriers.

He settled in quickly and is so smart! Cheryl was kind, responsive, and checked in to see how he’s adjusting, which I really appreciate. I’m so thankful for this sweet little pup (:

This was our first experience ever getting a puppy and I am happy to say it went very smoothly and we are entirely happy with the whole transaction. We are safely home with our puppy settling in nicely!
We had been watching for the perfect companion dog for my daughter who has anxiety and depression but is extremely responsible and a great lover of animals. My husband had been wanting a rat terrier for some time and last time we were ready to look for a dog, our friend needed a home for their dog so we adopted a big old lug of a silly goose, who bonded with my son and moved with him when he was stationed in Az. So we were dogless again, with the criteria: Female, Rat terrier, small breed. I wanted a blue one but the dog was for Fran, my daughter. She found Cheryl and her pups on Gooddog, and immediately loved Marcy. I told her to keep looking, that you shouldn’t just get the first dog you see (we had just started to seriously look) and I started sending links to blue puppies lol, but I also noticed all of the options I was finding were not giving the background and the reviews and what seemed to be the security of shopping through good dog- I kept going back and looking at Cheryl’s profile and all her puppies. My daughter Fran had said the week before she loved the “look” of Doberman dogs. I noticed Marcy kind of looks like a Doberman in coloring, and mentioned it. Fran said “She’s the cutest one.”
Then, I saw that all the puppies I was finding were going to end up being 38 ish pounds! That’s way too big! We were looking for a small breed rat terrier. Marcy was estimated to be 14-16 pounds! I had already texted Cheryl to tell her that we were interested in finding out more about Marcy, but that last little information sealed the deal for us as a family, and we asked to move forward with bringing Marcy home to be part of our family and we paid the deposit. I think I did it right! The more I looked at Marcy the more I loved her little face and her coloring and Fran was right, she is the cutest.
So Cheryl kept us in the loop as Marcy got older, enough to be picked up- by sending pics, and I bought plane tickets and we made a plan to meet at a hotel near the airport, with consideration that she was already meeting another family at the same hotel so I made my plan for that hotel as well (she didn’t make me or anything- she was willing to meet any day or any hotel)
A week before pickup time I paid the remaining total and verified that she received it and she always was very responsive and quick with responses and answers to all my questions about everything- I am a first time puppy …grandma?… Anyway … I had to get a special plane ticket add on and make sure my carrier was airline approved and get to the airport with extra time.
I made it to Ohio (Columbus airport- and stayed at the Tru by Hilton for 123.00 for one night and they have a shuttle back to the airport every 20 min. They have breakfast, and check out is at noon) one of my best friends had actually moved to Kentucky last year and she ended up driving the 3 hours to see me(see the puppy??) so that was great! She picked me up at the airport, I didn’t have to use the shuttle or Lyft or anything.
The next day, we went to Waffle House and then to the pet store and bought some warm clothes and a few other things for Marcy because Ohio was freezing! I made a tiny snowman! (We live in San Diego) then we checked out of the hotel and went to the goodwill outlet bins which was amazing lol. So fun. And then we went to meet Cheryl who arrived 10 min early.
Marcy was SO CUTE omg you guys. Talk about a melting heart. My daughter definitely picked a good dog. Cheryl came with a care package of several items, wipes, poop bags, a collapsing bowl, kibble, wet food, instructions on what Marcy normally eats and when and how, a blanket in a ziplock with her litter smell on it so she would feel comfortable! All her paperwork, a list of danger items for dogs, a couple toys, and probably more I’m forgetting. It was super helpful, especially the wipes because I had meant to buy some and I had missed them on my list and I definitely used them on the plane!
I had to make Cheryl repeat herself a few times because I was so distracted by how cute Marcy was! So I handed her off to my friend and paid attention.
She was very professional and you can tell she is very caring for her dogs and they are very healthy and she walked me through all the stuff I will need to do to keep her that way (shots, deworming, don’t let her down until after her next shots) I am very glad she told me those things. The next client showed up and Cheryl brought in two more puppies! She ended up being able to meet 3 families there that day. My friend held “Woodstock” and I held “Marcy” while Cheryl talked to a lady about “Lucy” lol. I had a bunch more questions which Cheryl answered easily and I had to leave soon to get to my plane. We took pictures in front of the Ohio mural, and we reluctantly gave “woodstock” back, (Marcy’s still the best BTW, she’s totally laid back comparatively, perfect for my daughter)
I went outside with my new family member, and got her dressed up in a sweater and hat against the icy wind and we went back in to show Cheryl the cuteness, but then it was time to go. We drove to the airport, and I got my luggage out and Marcy into her backpack carrier (invest, it was sooo handy to have a backpack one) and had to go to the front to get the special pet permissions. I was so stressed out though. I almost forgot my phone- but then we made it to security and they have you take your pet out to go through the metal detector, and they swab your hands for explodsive residue or whatever- and everyone was soooo excited to see Marcy.
We got through there and she went back into the backpack and she was a very good girl but I was very worried. I kept checking on her because she was being so quiet. The carrier extends so I did that until it was time to board to give her more room and she was very chill. I gave her water and food while waiting. We got on the plane and she slept almost the whole 5 hour plane ride, and if she was worried or anything she didn’t whine or bark and didn’t poop or pee. Then came the hard part. My plane was delayed, and I had a “change planes” in Las Vegas. So I was really worried. It all seemed okay with plenty of time, and then when we arrived, there was another plane at our gate and we had to wait.
Finally we got off and I was at the A gates and I needed to be at the C gates and I took off at the fastest walk you have ever seen with a backpack full of puppy. We did not have time to get any stretching done or food and water or anything I just booked it, looking at my ticket. Gate C8, well at least it’s a close to the front gate, right? WRONG. They go backwards with the lowest numbers the furthest away. You know when they are calling people to board planes and they’re like “last call for passenger: the gate is now closed, please make your way to gate C8, last call for passenger:” yeah it was ME this time as I ended up RUNNING the last 6 gates and it was literally so so so far, I forgot to look at my phone pedometer but I should. It was ridiculously far. Everyone was looking at me when I got on, and I was crying. Terrible. I went to the very very back and got a whole row to myself and checked on Marcy who seemed fine, no worse for wear. But DUDE make sure you have a layover. Not a change planes!! There were no direct flights. But we made it. I gave Marcy water and food and she drank some and then immediately spilled the water. We were waiting to take off and I smelled what can only be described as a “meaty smell” that ended up being Marcy poops. Which made me think that Marcy is being fed an excellent diet, if her poop smells like meat. And that’s when I used the wipes and the doggy poop bags, and then the plane announced we were delayed in taking off and I was able to bring the carrier up to the extra seats and really get in there cleaning up the mess with water, poop, and now pee, and the pad I had in there I put in its own bag to be washed at home and put in a new dry one and that was the first time Marcy had whined, when her water was spilled on her legs and butt. I was thankful she didn’t get into her poop, and that I had time to clean it up right away- but then the plane didn’t take off for another almost two hours because of weather in San Diego. Sooooo Marcy got some kibble and a LITTLE more water and settled down seemingly happily and I was sooooo glad I stressed and RAN through the airport so that I could wait in the plane from 8pm to 10:45 before actually leaving. Got home at like 11:45 instead of 9 and both my kids came to the airport OF COURSE (there’s a puppy mom, duhh) and Fran, Marcys new mom, was overjoyed to finally meet her. They have been attached ever since. We had set up a puppy playpen for Marcy but she ended up sleeping with Fran. Fran has beef dedicated to following the instructions on feeding, and we got her some pull toys yesterday and taught her how to get back up on the couch after getting down to pee on her puppy pad. Several times I have gone into the living room on Friday and Saturday (I let her stay home Friday, I’m not a monster) and they were sleeping together with Marcy snuggled into Fran’s cheek. Yesterday morning, (Saturday) I heard “cmon Marcy! Cmon! Yeah! Good job!) as Frans voice went down the hallway towards the kitchen.
It is making me happy to see her happy and interacting and having an animal to love and take care of, and that loves her back so fully- we have a cat but cats just don’t do the job of being a emotional therapy pet … I mean I’m sure some cats do, ours doesn’t. Marcy and the cat have looked at each other a few times. Our cat is used to our dog that our son took with him, so she wasn’t worried about Marcy and Marcy was raised with a bunch of animals I think Cheryl said so she wasn’t concerned about the cat either.
My daughter just came in talking about giving Marcy a bath lol. I have to google how to give a puppy a bath and what is okay to use in a bath for a puppy. So this is the end of our story for now.
To sum up; we had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Cheryl and we would recommend anyone getting a pup from her. I was also impressed by the security I felt with the good dog platform, I did not at any point feel I was being scammed or in danger of being scammed- at all. My friend (from Kentucky) kept saying that stuff (what if you came here and there is no dog?!) I was like no way- I am 100% comfortable that I am getting my dog and this is all going smoothly. I am very wary of scammers and tricksters, and Cheryl is definitely real and the good dog platform is designed to make the buyer AND the sellers feel 100% comfortable in the transaction that it will go smoothly.
