Q. & A. with Karen

  • Why did you start breeding?

After extensive amounts of research pertaining to Aussie lineage, capabilities, genetics, and "human like" intelligence, I developed a huge respect for the breed and knew I wanted an Aussie to be part of my life. In the spring of 2004 I purchased my first Aussie which quickly turned into three more by the end of that summer! Noticing immediately their "human like" intelligence and their desire to be with people, I decided Therapy work would be a great venue to get into. We did and it went amazingly!!! I quickly realized that these dogs were unaffected by not having livestock to work. This made the stereotypical description of an Aussie being a bit high strung and unpredictable unless working livestock, completely untrue! They effortlessly put all of their fantastic traits into "Therapy" work. I was confident that these crosses would make a fantastic asset to any family. Whether wanting to tap into the "working" part of their brain or wanting an awesomely predictable family pet. That's when I decided to breed. I was excited to show people what could potentially be a part of their family. My idea progressed into babies all over the U.S. The feedback I received was phenomenal! That continued until 2014 when I retired the last of my original 4 dogs. In 2015, I decided to continue my program but with large minis/small standards. That's when Water's Edge began. The requirements of the miniatures that have been chosen for this program, are consistent with those of my standards. Their intelligence, and quiet, calm, predictable temperaments are validated with every litter. It's been a privilege to have this wonderful breed be such a huge part of my life, my children's, and now grandchildren's lives.
  • What makes your program special?

Water's Edge is confident that we have produced a line that will exceed any expectations you may have of an Australian Shepherd. Our program produces quiet, focused, confident, predictable temperaments in any situation. This kind of temperament will apply in any lifestyle they're placed in. Whether wanting to tap into the "working" part of their brain or needing a loving and predictable family pet. These attributes are proven over and over again with each litter. It is my responsibility as a breeder, to produce exactly what I've claimed to produce. This will ensure happiness and safety, not only for prospective homes, but for the puppies as well. Water's Edge puppies will thrive in any lifestyle. Active or inactive. They will comply with anything that is asked of them.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies include blue merle, black tri, red tri, red merle, and red. Miniature American Shepherd puppies include black tri, red merle, blue merle, and red. Australian Shepherd puppies include red merle, blue merle, red, black tri-color, and red tri-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
